Shirov, The Sicilian with 3. Bb5 - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

!

ALEXEI SHIROV

·         Fritztrainer DVD

·         Videorunning time: 7 hours

·         Language: English

The Rossolimo Variation of the Sicilian Defence (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5) is always an excellent choice with White if you want to avoid the deeply analysed main lines of the Open Sicilian (3.d4), in which the analysis frequently goes deep into the middlegame or sometimes even into the endgame. For that reason the move 3.Bb5 has a fi rm place in the repertoire of many grandmasters where it is welcome above all as an anti-Sveshnikov weapon. Instead of getting involved in a theoretical duel, White logically aims for strategically complex positions, e.g. by exchanging on c6 and at the cost of the bishop pair degrading Black’s pawn structure (doubled pawns c6/c5). This results in positions in which positional understanding is more important than knowledge of specifi c variations - meaning that only players who are aware of the general plans and typical piece manoeuvres will be able to find their way through them. (Text ChessBase)

Alexei Shirov provides you with the requisite understanding of the subtleties of these positions, by annotating extensively his most important games in this variation. During his career he has played the 3.Bb5 system with both colours and he shares with you on this DVD his valuable experience in the form of video lessons which take up a total running time of more than seven hours.

Alexej Shirov was born in Riga just like world champion Mihail Tal, and also his playing style reminds many chess fans of the young Tal. In the beginning of the 90ies, a comet-like rise brought the young Latvian to the world top within the shortest of time. Being no older than 22 years, he already had an Elo rating of nearly 2750 and belonged to the absolute elite. Since then Shirov has been one of the best players in the world, delighting all chess fans with original and amazing ideas on the board.

Davies, The Accelerated Dragon - fritztrainer opening

!
Nigel Davies

English, Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard.

The Accelerated Dragon is much more than just a dynamic yet solid means of countering 1.e4. By knowing how to counter the Maroczy Bind Black can counter both the English and Reti Openings and even develop the basis of a defence against 1.d4. Whilst having been used extensively by superstars such as Bent Larsen and Tigran Petrosian, Davies argues that the Accelerated Dragon is an even more
effective proposition for club players. As he explains on this DVD, many White players are under the mistaken impression that the positions are like a regular Sicilian Dragon. And if this is the case they can . nd himself being demolished right out of the opening.

Nigel Davies has been a Grandmaster since 1993 and is a former British Open Quickplay and U21 Champion. He is an acknowledged expert on the lines presented here, having used them extensively in tournament practice.

(Text ChessBase)

Tiviakov, The Maroczy System - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

!
Sergei Tiviakov

English, Pentium -PC , 64 MB RAM, Windows Vista, XP, DVD drive , soundcard

The Maroczy System of the Sicilian Defence is one of the modern openings where Black attacks the white centre mainly with pieces. After the moves 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 5.c4 Nf6 the pawns c4 and e4 secure White a space advantage in the middle, however, it is exactly these central pillars which may easily become targets of the black counterattack. Sergei Tiviakov has been applying this system with Black in his tournament practice since 1991 and is considered one its greatest experts. His explanations make it easy to understand the black set-up where recognizing typical recurring piece manoeuvres is far more important than concrete knowledge of variations. The Maroczy System can be learned within the shortest of time, and due to its solidity it is best suited to score good results even against strong opponents. Video running time: 3 h 15 min.

Born in Krasnodar (Soviet Union), Sergei Tiviakov was a member of the Smyslov school and gained the titles of World Youth Champion at U16 and U18 levels. In the PCA-World Championships, he reached the candidates‘ matches in 1994; in the same year he represented Russia in the Chess Olympiads. Although he has considered himself a professional chess player since 1989, Tiviakov also fi nished his degree in agricultural economics. Since 1997 Tiviakov has been living in Groningen and he has become a naturalised citizen of the Netherlands. With his new home country he won the title in the European Teams Championships in both 2001 and 2005 and was victorious in the championship of the Netherlands in 2006 and 2007.

Shirov : My best games in the Najdorf - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

!
Alexei Shirov

Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Media Player 9.0, DVD drive

Alexei Shirov can look back on an extraordinary chess career. Young Alexei became U-16 World Champion in 1988, and second in the World Junior Championship in 1990. He received his GM title in 1992, at the age of 20. Since then, Shirov has belonged to the absolute top players in the world. In 1998 he defeated Vladimir Kramnik in a ten-game qualification match that was staged to select a challenger for World Champion Garry Kasparov. Unfortunately, that title match never took place. In 2000 Shirov reached the final of the FIDE world championship, losing to Vishy Anand.

Now the genius from Riga presents and explains his best games in a series of training DVDs in the Chess Media System. Shirov's uncompromising style of play is also reflected in his manner of commenting his own games. He is perfectly objective, and in fact sometimes ruthlessly critical of himself. Even when he is dealing with highly acclaimed games, his judgement is unbiased - no glossing over critical positions where he did not find the optimal continuation. Chess fans are treated not just to a portrait of this extraordinary player, but they can also learn a lot about the development of particular opening lines at top level in the course of time.

On this 3rd DVD by Shirov, you will find his most brilliant games in the Sicilian Najdorf. Shirov's duel with van Wely in the Najdorf Keres Attack is for sure one of the highlights on this DVD, just as the presentation of one of his best games against Kasparov. More than 3 hours entertainment and enlightenment, all packed in one. (Text ChessBase)

Ftacnik, Sizilianisch Scheveningen - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

LUBOMIR FTACNIK

·         Fritztrainer DVD

·         Sprache: Deutsch (incl. englischer Version)

·         Running time: 7 hours

Videolaufzeit: 7 Stunden. (Text ChessBase)

Alexei Shirov

Van Wely, The Sveshnikov Variation of the Sicilian - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

!

Loek van Wely

English

Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Media Player 9.0, DVD drive

The Sveshnikov Variation of the Sicilian - 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 - also known as Lasker-Pelikan or Cheliabinsk Variation - is one of the most popular and fascinating replies to 1.e4. Right from the beginning, Black is striving for active and dynamic counterplay, and this results in a double-edge struggle for the initiative. In the seventies of the 20th century it was Jevgeni Sveshnikov who worked out the system as a pioneer. Today, it firmly belongs to the repertoire of many outstanding players like Kramnik, Lautier, Radjabov and Leko. Dutch top grandmaster and six-times national champion Loek van Wely himself has played the Sveshnikov since 1998. On this DVD he comments on his latest encounters with world-class players like Shirov, Anand, Topalov and Kramnik. Nearly all games are from the period 2003-2006. As one would expect in the Sveshnikov, the games abound with combinatorial ideas and sacrifi ces; a feast for all fans of tactics.

Van Wely focuses on the main variations 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 6.Ndb5 d6 7.Bg5 a6 8.Na3 b5 9.Nd5 Be7 10.Bxf6 Bxf6 11.c3 Bg5 12.Nc2 and 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 6.Ndb5 d6 7.Bg5 a6 8.Na3 b5 9.Bxf6 gxf6 10.Nd5 f5. Video playing time: 3 h 43 min

Born in 1972, Loek van Wely learned chess at the age of 4 and was soon recognized as one of the greatest talents in the Netherlands ever. After becoming Grandmaster in 1993, he steadily climbed up the Elo ladder to reach a peak of 2714 and a place among the top ten in the world in 2001. From the years 2000 to 2005, ‘King Loek’ won the Dutch national championship six time in a row. His reputation as an uncompromising fi gher with a merciless will towin make him a most welcome guest in tournaments all over the world.. Among van Wely’s greatest successes are his triumphs at the Berlin Open in 1991, the World Open in Philadelphia in 1992 and the New York Open in 1995. In 2005, he was the top board of the victorious Dutch team at the European team championship in Gothenburg.

Shirov, My best games in the Slav and Semi-Slav (fritztrainer opening - ChessBase)

Alexei Shirov

English, Pentium -PC, 64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, DVD drive , soundcard

The Slav is typified by the move c6, and in the Semi-Slav e6 is also played; the relationship between the two is obvious. At some points, Shirov’s lecture is closely related to the history of the opening, because the Latvian has contributed to and advanced the development of many lines. In the Meran Variation, Shirov’s name is linked to a line which is now known as Shabalov Anttack. After 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nf3 e6 5.e3 Nbd7 6.Qc2 Bd6 it was Shirov and Shabalov, who introduced the move 7.g4 into chess praxis in 1992. Today there are over 1000 games in the Mega Database with that variation. Shirov recounts the way this extravagant line arose and explains some of its most important ideas.

Mikhalchishin, Arkhangelsk - fritztrainer opening (ChessBase)

!
Adrian Mikhalchishin

·         Fritztrainer DVD

·         Language: English

·         Running time: 5 hours

The Ruy Lopez represents one of the oldest and best openings for the first player, and everyone going for the Spanish game with Black faces the question of how he wants to tackle the white ideas. One of the more aggressive fighting methods is the move order 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0–0 b5 6.Bb3 Bb7, which was developed in the early sixties by players from the north Russian town of Archangelsk and has carried this name ever since. Later, the variation was intensively analysed by players from Lvov - among them Mikhalchishin and Beliavsky – and applied in tournament practice. In the second half of the seventies it gained great popularity for the first time. In the Archangelsk Variation, Black defines the position of this queen’s bishop early on with 6. ... Bb7 in order to exert pressure against the opponent’s centre, in particular the point e4. White must decide whether he protects this pawn solidly with 7.d3 or goes for the unfathomable complications after 7.c3 Nxe4. Another option is 7.Re1 Bc5 8.c3 d6 9.d4 Bb6, which is closely related to the Moller System. The experienced trainer and Grandmaster Adrian Mikhalchishin is an outstanding connoisseur of these variations, the ideas of which he goes on to explain in nearly five hours video playing time.
