Dejan Bojkov, Jahrgang 1977, ist ein bulgarischer GM und an der Bulgarischen Sportakademie in Sofia ausgebildeter Trainer. Nach seiner Tätigkeit als Trainer in Kavala (Griechenland), hat er für die Exweltmeisterin Antoaneta Stefanova als Trainer gearbeitet. Bojkov ist Bulgarischer Landesmeister 2009 und war Mitglied der bulgarischen Mannschaft bei der Europamannschaftsmeisterschaft 2009.

Chess is turning into a young man’s game. Time limits are faster, sessions last longer and computer databases and playing engines seem to dominate opening preparation.

Add the fact that older players often have jobs and families that take most of their time and it’s no surprise they suffer painful defeats at the hands of spotty youths. Nigel Davies is no stranger to this situation; a more mature Grandmaster who refuses to grow old with dignity he is still slugging it out with young players in tournaments and matches. The theory of the critical moment in the chess game was explained once by GM Iosif Dorfman, who suggested that every game has 5 or 6 "forks" at which the important decisions are made. Accordingly, all major erroneous decisions are made at these moments when there are multiple possible choices. Mikhalchishin describes different critical moments in detail and explains how to react correctly. Understanding the play at such a critical moment is the key to improving one’s results and general understanding of chess. Planning is the most difficult part of the game of chess. It is everywhere - we use it from the opening to the ending. A plan is based on evaluation and that evaluation is based on the different static and dynamic elements of the position. But what the chess books don’t describe is the direction of the plan. The aim of every plan is the exploitation of weakness! So, spot the weakness, fix it and then just attack it. There are different kinds of plans - typical plans, based on the structures and analogical plans, based on similar constellations of the pieces on the board.
